We are lucky enough to work with a wide range of arty folk and bodies to extend what ROMP can offer local people including: Hot Beanz [Rotherham based comedy script writers], poet and comedian Stan Skinny, Rotherham Young Writers, Word Life Poetry, Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance [ROAR], Open Minds Theatre Company and Signposts Writing Project. See links for pages we recommend you check out.
Mike Garry
ROMP was pleased to welcome Mike Garry [the unofficial poet laureate of the North] to
the ROMP stage in March 2013. Mike's poems of life in Manchester are hypnotic, tough and funny
as fuck. Check his stuff out on YouTube. Mike once talked down an attempted suicide. With his
verbal ability, this does not surprise us. Check out the full story.Mike on ROMP “You’ve got something really special here”.

Roy Blackman
When Roy graces the stage at ROMP, you can be sure it’s not long before
everyone is singing along with their mouths stretched out into one continuous
smile that circles the room and makes everyone fuzzy. Roy is one of Rotherham’s
oldest and most active poet-songwriters. At 77 years old he has been writing
and composing great Folk based songs for many years.Roy came to fame as "Mr Memory Man" on Hughie Green's The Sky's The Limit where week after week he would answer the most obscure questions on Football, and Sport in general. He could recite whole team sheets for a match, including bookings and the Referee. Since then he has been an ever present on the Folk / Acoustic Music scene in South Yorkshire, where he is ever popular with audiences.

Buddy Wakefield
Buddy is one of the most well-know American slam poets and it was out dream to bring him to Rotherham from America. Although we though it a pipe dream, with the help of WordLife Poetry and Writing Yorkshire, 6 months after we first emailed him, there he was, for a right memorable ROMP at the Bridge Inn!In spring 2011 Buddy left his job in a biomedical firm, sold and gave away everything he owned and set out to ‘live for a living’, travel America performing poetry for the next two years. He’s performing alongside so of the great contemporary American performance poets including: Derrick Brown, Ani Mojgani, Safe Francis, Saul Williams and Andrea Gibson.
Buddy Wakefield was World Poetry Slam Championship in 2004 and 2005. He continues to tour and has various books and CDs. Check him out doing a TED TALK recently.
“If we were created in God’s image, then when God was a child he smudged fire ants with his fingertips and avoided tough questions.” ― Buddy Wakefield, Gentleman Practice
